Founding Reader

The Founding Reader plugin

Search the Declaration, the Articles of Confederation, the Constitution and Bill of Rights, all 85 Federalist essays and the major Anti-Federalist writings from inside your assistant, with exact text, attribution, dates and links to keep reading.

The Claude connector is available in Claude’s directory. The Claude plugin bundle is in directory review and can already be installed from GitHub. The ChatGPT app is being prepared for submission. All versions use the same source collection and tools.

Read the source

Ask what the Federalist Papers say about faction, request a reference such as Federalist 78 or Article III, Section 1, open one of fifteen curated debates, or ask whether Brutus answered Hamilton. The tools search the collection and retrieve source text. Your assistant chooses which passages fit and provides any interpretation. Its explanation is separate from the quoted document.

Whole essays and documents are available in successive pages. Reading links open the passage on this site. A search that finds nothing cannot establish that a writer never said something, and the tools never invent passages, authorship or replies.

Connect in Claude

In Claude, browse connectors and search for The Founding Reader, then add it to your account. No Founding Reader account, API key or authentication is required.

For a manual MCP connection, use https://foundingreader.com/mcp with Streamable HTTP and no authentication. Try: “What does Federalist 78 say about judicial independence? Quote the relevant passages and provide source links.”

Install in Claude Code

Run claude plugin marketplace add DlaregY/the-founding-reader-claude-plugin, then claude plugin install the-founding-reader@founding-reader. In Claude chat or Cowork, upload the release ZIP from the repository under Customize, Plugins, Upload plugin.
